Our Story

Founded in 1978 by Mr. Fernando Gomes, F Gomes Upholsters began as a small upholstery workshop in Cornelia Street, Troyeville. With nothing more than exceptional craftsmanship, determination, and a passion for creating beautiful furniture, Mr. Gomes worked tirelessly to build a business founded on quality and trust.

As demand grew, the company expanded to larger premises in Johannesburg before establishing a strong reputation in the aviation industry in 1986. Today, F Gomes Upholsters is recognised for its precision craftsmanship and has completed upholstery projects for aircraft operating both within South Africa and internationally. Mr. Gomes’ attention to detail, commitment to excellence, and uncompromising standards became the foundation of the company’s success.

Now based in Eastleigh, Edenvale, F Gomes Upholsters continues to uphold the values on which it was built. Under the leadership of his daughter, Carla de Lima, the business proudly carries forward Mr. Gomes’ legacy, delivering expert craftsmanship, honest workmanship, and exceptional service. Every project large or small is approached with professionalism, integrity, and the belief that quality should never be compromised.

More than four decades later, Mr. Gomes, now 86 years old, remains an inspiration to the business he founded. His passion continues to guide everything we do, ensuring that every piece leaving our workshop reflects the same pride, care, and dedication that have defined F Gomes Upholsters from the very beginning.
